For teachers and classrooms of children up to 11 years of age

A calm, shared language for feelings and behaviour in your classroom

The Parts of Me Classroom Collection gives you a picture book, ten lesson ideas, ten classroom posters and a Teacher Companion, so every child can learn that feelings and behaviour are messages, and nobody has to be singled out or share anything personal.

By Angela M. Carter, Registered Social Worker and IFS trained therapist with over 30 years of clinical experience. Illustrated by Aaron Randy.

Behaviour is communication

Your classroom sees big feelings every day

A child who calls out, withdraws, argues or cannot begin is often telling you something in the only way they can. Teachers notice this all day, and rarely have the time or the words to explore it.

Parts of Me gives the whole class a gentle way to talk about feelings using characters, colour and story. Nobody has to share anything personal. Children can join in by listening, drawing, moving or watching, and the language you build together makes it easier to respond with curiosity and steadiness.

How it helps

Three things it gives you

Children standing together holding a Be Kind to Yourself and Others sign

One language for the whole class

Characters and posters give everyone the same kind words for feelings and behaviour, offered to the whole group and never used to label a child.

Regulation without singling anyone out

Regulation Cards and a class support menu make calming options part of ordinary classroom life, available to everyone.

Every way of taking part counts

Every lesson starts with fictional characters and builds in choice, so children can listen, draw, move, work with a partner or pass.

Questions

Good to know before you buy

What do I receive, and how?

Straight after you buy, you get a login by email. Inside your members area you can download the book, the printable activities, the Parts Cards and Regulation Cards, the ten posters, the ten lesson ideas, the Teacher Companion, the Start Here guide and the five Understanding the Child guides.

What ages is Parts of Me for?

Parts of Me is aimed at children up to 11 years of age, so it opens the door from kindergarten right through the primary and elementary years. Some younger children enjoy the story and pictures, and you choose the lessons and activities that suit your class. Adults who have read the book have also told us they found it very informative for themselves.

Do I need to know anything about Internal Family Systems or trauma?

No. Adults do not need specialist knowledge to begin. The Teacher Companion explains how to introduce parts language safely and gently, and every lesson is written for an ordinary classroom.

Will children have to share personal things?

No. Every lesson starts with fictional characters, colour, movement or story, and passing is always allowed. The Teacher Companion is clear that a child should never need to disclose personal experiences in order to take part.

Is this a behaviour programme?

No. It is a gentle shared language and a set of creative activities. It is not a diagnostic tool, a behaviour programme or a substitute for therapeutic support, and the Teacher Companion explains how to use it alongside your usual limits and school processes.

How long are the lessons?

The ten lesson ideas run from 15 to 40 minutes. Each stands on its own, and a short activity that leaves children settled is enough. There are also tiny classroom moments of two minutes.

Can my whole school use it?

Every teacher who uses the digital files needs their own licence. Choose the number of licences above and the reduced pricing is applied for you: 10% off for 2 to 4, 20% off for 5 to 9 and 30% off for 10 to 24. For 25 or more, ask for a quotation.

How does each teacher get access?

After you buy, you see a My licences page. Enter each teacher's email and they receive their own login. If a teacher leaves, you can move their licence to someone else.

Can I put the files on our school drive or learning platform?

Not with a single licence. Each teacher uses the files through their own login. If you would like an arrangement for a whole school, ask us for a quotation.

Do you offer refunds?

Because Parts of Me is a digital download that you can open as soon as you buy, all sales are final and we do not offer refunds. Please look through the pages and the list of what is inside before you buy. If a file will not open or download, get in touch and we will put it right. This does not affect any rights you have under consumer law.
