Why I wrote Parts of Me

In my practice room I spend a great deal of time helping adults understand their inner world, their autonomic nervous system and the survival responses that have looked after them for so long. Again and again, someone says to me, “I wish I had known this as a child.” They ask why we are not taught this in schools, and why their parents and teachers were never shown how any of it works.

I wrote Parts of Me for those children, and for the grown ups who care for them. It gives children simple, kind words for what is happening inside them, so that understanding themselves feels ordinary and safe, and is something they can learn early rather than wait for until adulthood.

The book is illustrated by Aaron Randy. If you are an author looking for an illustrator for your own book, you can find him on Instagram.

From a book to a digital collection

I published the book three years ago, and I regularly received emails asking whether I would create a digital version. Instead, I created a digital collection. It brings the story together with practical resources for home, school and practice, so that parents, teachers and practitioners can share one gentle language with the children in their care.

The original paperback is still available on Amazon.
